‌April is National Volunteer Month, and we celebrate big at TXST. Volunteering is a great way to support your community, explore pathways into service, learn something new, and connect with others. In this month’s Current video, I learned about all the wonderful and impactful ways Bobcats are giving back in San Marcos and Round Rock. (As an update to this video, Bobcat Build closed volunteer registration early because so many people signed up to be a part of this TXST tradition!)

My Top Ten Moments:

From visiting the nation’s capital to share all the exciting news happening at TXST to catching some spring Bobcat Baseball at the Astros Foundation College Classic with 250 alumni, March gave me a boost of energy and inspiration. Check out a few of my top moments this month.

Mission Moment:

We are continuing to break expenditure records in our Run to R1 to attain the highest tier research university by 2027. In fiscal year 2023, we accumulated $141.3 million in Research and Development expenditures — a $31.3 million, or 28.4%, increase over the previous record we set in 2022.

Those figures represent just how focused we are on TXST’s research growth. For more context, TXST’s level of research spending in 2018 was just $64.3 million. We are now sitting at a remarkable 118.6% increase over that span. Our faculty members are creating knowledge and solutions with their research and our students are learning valuable skills in the process. We invest in building our research enterprise to ensure students are immersed in rich research environments so they are better prepared for successful careers, they graduate on time, and they get jobs.

As we achieve Carnegie R1 status, it will provide TXST with more resources and further the university’s positive impact on the state and beyond.

Read more about our research growth in fiscal year 2023 in the release.

‌Even though the Fall semester is still six months away, that doesn’t stop us from getting excited about the return of Bobcat Football. We are set to play seven home games this year, the most in a regular season since 2005, starting with three in a row on August 31 with a nonconference game against Lamar State College. We can’t wait to see how Head Coach GJ Kinne and our Bobcats build off their first bowl victory in program history. See the full schedule and start your Fall football planning now.

Speaking of events, we recently unveiled our 125th anniversary logo that we’ll be using throughout the year after we kick off the celebration on our Founders Day, May 10, 2024.

‌One of the best parts of my job is seeing the good work our Bobcat students, faculty and staff members, and alumni are doing in the world. From research to volunteering, we continue to break records and make a difference.

You make me proud to be a Bobcat!

Sincerely,

Kelly Damphousse, Ph.D.,

President
