Dear Fellow Bobcat:
There are a lot of great things going on at our university right now, including a new slate of Texas State Athletics competitions! Our fall sports schedule of home games is heating up.
Tonight, our soccer team will take on Colorado State at 7:30 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. Bobcat football will face off against Lamar on August 31 at 7 p.m. at the UFCU Stadium, and Bobcat volleyball will play Troy on October 4 at 6 p.m. at the University Events Center.
To purchase discounted game tickets for you and your family, or for the latest news, scores, highlights, and unique content including podcasts and features, visit TXST.com.
Also, you won’t want to miss the second annual Back the Bobcats Block Party this Friday in San Marcos on the eve of the Bobcats' football home opener. Starting at 6 pm, the Back the Bobcats Block Party will have live entertainment and music, food, drinks and special appearances, including TXST head football coach GJ Kinne and players. The free event is for all ages and will take place on North Street between Hopkins and Hutchison and near Zelick's and North Street Curry Shop.
Earlier, I wrote to our students to remind them about the importance of Bobcat pride and appropriate fan behavior. I encouraged them to join me in supporting their fellow students by attending their competitions and demonstrating that TXST is a leader in college sportsmanship. We all want our athletic events to serve as a model for safety, civility, and team pride.
I know many of you also enjoy attending our athletic events, in addition to attending the many social and cultural opportunities that our campuses afford. We show our school spirit by wearing maroon and gold on Spirit Fridays. I have really enjoyed the creative ways that many of you extend that tradition by showing your Bobcat spirit every day. You have inspired me to wear our school colors every day to share the pride that I have for our university as well.
Wearing our TXST gear (especially on States Up Fridays) and attending our athletic events are just a couple of ways that we come together as a community. Attending athletic events also encourages our students and fellow employees in the Department of Athletics.
As I met with our student-athletes and coaches this summer, I heard repeatedly how much they appreciate the support they receive from their fellow Bobcats – especially those that attend their competitions. Our teams excel, in part, because of the atmosphere the university community creates during our home events. We can help our students and their coaches continue being the “Best in the Sun Belt” by showing our school spirit and by attending their games.
If you are interested in keeping up with Bobcat Athletics, you can follow them on social media via Facebook, Twitter (X), and Instagram or you can watch great videos about your Bobcats on their official YouTube channel. There are also several athletics social accounts you can follow to keep up with individual sports. If you use social media, consider spreading the word about TXST by posting about Bobcat Athletics using the hashtag #EatEmUp, #TXST or tagging @txst or @txstatebobcats in your posts.
Thank you for all that you do to make TXST a great place to live, to work, to learn, and to serve. I cannot wait to see even more maroon and gold on our campuses this fall.
Go Bobcats!
Sincerely,
Kelly Damphousse, Ph.D.
President
