‌Video: The Importance of Celebrating History and Milestones

TXST President Kelly Damphousse and Professor of History Dr. Ronald Brown

‌TXST’s 125th anniversary kicked off this month and it provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate the qualities we love about our great university – our proud history, our rich traditions, and the dedicated Bobcats who brought us to this point. As I meet alumni from around the world, I hear a common theme: TXST feels like home. That is the legacy passed on from one Bobcat generation to the next. Now through December 2024, we will explore and commemorate TXST’s impact on yesterday, today, and the next 125 years.

In this month’s Current video, I talked to Professor of History Dr. Ronald Brown about our traditions, how TXST has retained its “feeling of home” while embracing growth, and why it is important to commemorate our history.

My Top Ten Moments:

From highlighting generous TXST employee donors at the Gold Standard Luncheon to hanging out with more than 2,500 students at Late Night Breakfast and welcoming the Terry Foundation to campus, it was a perfect ending to the Spring semester. Check out a few of my top moments this month.

Mission Moment:

In a landmark multitiered partnership, TXST signed an agreement with University Federal Credit Union (UFCU) that will rebrand Bobcat Stadium as UFCU Stadium.

This 15-year, $23 million partnership is the largest corporate sponsorship in the Sun Belt Conference for naming rights at a football stadium, and one of the largest for a college football stadium in Texas.

I am excited to expand our strong relationship with UFCU. Over the last 11 years, UFCU has served as one of TXST’s most prominent corporate partners, providing nearly $3 million to support university groups, underwrite scholarships, fund athletic programs, and more.

In more Athletics news, congratulations to TXST Softball and Women’s Track and Field for their Sun Belt Conference Championships!

We finished the 2024 Spring semester strong with eight commencement ceremonies and more than 4,000 new TXST graduates. As I reflect on the past semester, I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished thus far in 2024. I am inspired by our students for everything they achieved, our faculty members for guiding them to success, and our staff members for supporting them along the way. Our new 125th anniversary video sums up the “why” for everything we do at TXST.

Have a wonderful summer and I look forward to celebrating our 125th anniversary with you.

Sincerely,

Kelly Damphousse
President
