The TXST Update

‌

I am excited to introduce this new email newsletter to share some of the many inspiring stories, achievements, and moments happening at TXST throughout the year.

Let’s Celebrate!

When we began planning TXST’s 125th anniversary, we knew it had to be something truly special—a chance to honor our shared legacy and the unique community that makes TXST feel like home. I’m excited to invite you to CELEBRATE 125, an unforgettable spirit rally on November 14 featuring performances by headliner Josh Abbott Band and special guest Grupo Fantasma, a spectacular drone show, fireworks, and more. This event is our gift to you—free and open to everyone—but please reserve your tickets now to attend. Visit our CELEBRATE 125 webpage for more details.

In addition to the rally, Homecoming Week (November 11-16) will include a memorable tribute to our Distinguished Alumni over the years, the Homecoming football game, and all the beloved traditions that keep our Bobcat spirit alive. Tickets for the Homecoming game are available here.

Opening Doors to Higher Education

At TXST, we proudly welcome those who dream big and work hard for a better future. Over 41% of our students—like myself and many alumni, faculty, and staff—are the first in their families to pursue college. Each of them has their own reasons for choosing TXST, but they’re united by the chance to build a better life through higher education, surrounded by a supportive community. You can read some of their inspiring stories in our TXST Newsroom.

First-Gen Week, running through November 8, celebrates our first-generation Bobcats. TXST will host events offering resources, skill-building, and enrichment opportunities. While we celebrate the achievements of all Bobcats, this week especially honors those who, despite unique challenges, are creating a brighter future for themselves and their families—and we are with them every step of the way.

My Top Ten Moments

From participating on an EdExcelencia panel on college affordability and catching up with retired faculty and staff, to attending my third Sacred Springs Powwow and unveiling the new Minerva statue on our San Marcos Campus, last month offered a variety of experiences to enjoy.

Here are a few of my top moments from October.

November Highlights

November is a big month for TXST student-athletes! The men’s basketball season kicks off at home on November 4, followed by the women’s on November 9. Our soccer team enters the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed, and the cross-country team recently competed in the SBC Championships. Bobcat football faces the University of Louisiana-Monroe in Monroe on November 9, plays at home in UFCU Stadium against Southern Mississippi on November 16 and Georgia State on November 23, and wraps up the month against South Alabama in Mobile on November 29. I hope to see you in the stands, cheering them all on!

As we near the end of a remarkable fall semester—with record enrollment, more online degree offerings, growth at our Round Rock Campus, a new campus in Querétaro, Mexico, and expanded community college partnerships that increase access to a TXST degree—I am grateful to be part of TXST’s incredible story. Thank you for all you do to support our university and our students. Together, we are launching TXST into the next 125 years.

Sincerely,

Kelly Damphousse
President
